Mr. Yang Junyu studied under Shi Yunxiang, a disciple of Zhang Daqian, Chen Qi, a disciple of Li Kuchan, and Li Xianliang, among others. He received encouragement and guidance from Professor Qiao Sen of the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, and Mr. Gu Baoyu (a disciple of Li Kuchan), a master of traditional Chinese painting. He specializes in flower-and-bird painting and splash-ink landscape painting, and his works have been collected by Rongbaozhai.
Currently, he is the President of the Guo Meng Shan Hai Academy of Painting and Calligraphy, a member of the Chinese Painting, Calligraphy and Seal Carving Artists Association, a member of the Zhang Daqian Research Association of Da Feng Tang, the chief painter of the Shengshi Art Museum, and a guest professor at Qingdao Agricultural University and Shuoyang Postgraduate Entrance Examination Base.
Professor Yang Junyu, a man of striking appearance, paints landscapes with the bold use of ink. Whether it’s black or deep blue, he applies it freely and effortlessly, aiming for a sense of spontaneity and unrestrained charm. Surprisingly, the effect is extraordinary, reminiscent of the artistic impact of Zhang Daqian’s splashed-ink and splashed-color techniques. His landscape paintings range from profound and intense to subtle and elegant, with varying shades complementing each other perfectly. I believe that as long as people enjoy them, it’s what matters most. When it comes to painting landscapes, the artist is happiest when their work is appreciated. Ideally, if the artwork can achieve the goal of being "appealing to both refined and popular tastes" and "winning universal admiration," the purpose is fulfilled.
Junyu’s landscapes, unique and new,
Where steep mountains are painted with masterly skill,
The vast universe hides at his brush's will,
Praising the homeland, his heart ever true.——Regulated Verse Poetry
